I am proud to say that I have found a life of recovery after 25 years of struggling with alcohol addiction. Becoming sober and educating myself about the disease of alcoholism has motivated me to help educate others that alcoholism is a disease and is very possible to overcome. Growing up on a reservation, where both genetic and cultural factors predisposed me to alcoholism, the hardships of life itself became even harder when fueled by my addiction. After the loss of multiple jobs, people, and opportunities I surrendered and decided to give a sober life a shot. The best decision I would ever make! Through my own dedication and working through multiple pathways of recovery, as well as the support of my partner of 10 years, I have found a path to sobriety and a real purpose in life. I am still on this journey of discovering who I am without my addiction. For the first time in 25 years, I have felt the real pain of death, real joy of happiness, and the fulfillment of service work that I genuinely enjoy, and a true love for myself that I am worthy to live a good life. I now work at Recovery Connections, where I use my experience to inspire and support others on their journey to recovery. My story is one of resilience, growth, and hope for a brighter future.
